Applying for housing benefit online in Hamburg
Hamburg is one of the digital pioneers: you can submit your housing benefit (Wohngeld) application entirely online or via the Wohngeld app – no printing and no office appointment. If you prefer the classic route, use the post.
The online application
Via the City of Hamburg service portal, you fill in the application digitally and submit it directly. The portal guides you step by step through the details on rent, income and household.
The Wohngeld app
Hamburg is one of the first federal states to offer its own Wohngeld app for iOS and Android. With it, you can submit the entire application from your smartphone.
The app shows the processing status, enables secure communication with the housing benefit authority and lets you upload documents directly using your camera. For full use you need a BundID account and an identity card with the online ID function (eID) activated.
The postal route
You can also print out the application and send it by post – to the central postal address: Wohngeld Zentrale Poststelle, Caffamacherreihe 1–3, 20355 Hamburg. Personal visits are not possible there; you can drop the application off at your local district housing benefit office.
